Welcome to the Utah RC Community

This guide provides an overview of the entire Utah RC community. Discover your next passion by checking out this comprehensive overview.

Introduction

The Lehi RC Club (LRCC), in collaboration with Peak Hobbies, would like to officially welcome you to the Utah RC community. This guide was written by local volunteers. It will help you navigate the sprawling and oftentimes complex world of RCs. Whether you will be bashing, flying, floating, or crawling this guide provides key information and resources to help you get the most out of your experience. We share how to get involved with the Utah RC scene, why community is important, and tips to get the most out of your RC journey.

Community Overview

The RC hobby is a unique endeavor. Many experience the world of RCs as an enjoyable pastime with friends or family. For a few, it means a lifetime dedication to a unique career. We encourage community members to respect the journey each fellow hobbyists will take. That might mean flying an inexpensive drone at a local park for fun, all the way up to earning a living participating in sponsored competitive RC sports.

RC parts do not come with instructions. We rely on each other to learn, grow, and share our skills. It doesn’t take much knowledge to keep an RC working. Yet, the same hobby can offer a surprising technical depth only true enthusiasts will fully master. Regularly maintaining an RC will extend its life and maintain performance. Simple tasks like changing worn tires or swapping props is something everyone experiences. Dedicated enthusiasts handle complex specialties like custom fabrication and realistic scale paint work. Getting to know others unlocks new creative potential and fun, that's what the LRCC is all about.

Our local hobby shops are important. They become physical places to meet fellow enthusiasts, develop RC skills, ask questions, and find out what is happening in our area. This information isn’t available from on-line retailers. While resources like YouTube can teach many RC topics, certain critical tasks can only be learned hands-on in person from fellow hobbyists. On-line retailers dominate the battle over lower prices. It takes active support of local hobby shops to ensure this valuable resource remains accessible. Help out by shopping local when possible.

Radio Controlled Specialties

There are many types of RCs, though they generally fit within three categories: Aircraft, Groundcraft, and Watercraft. These are often further subdivided into electric and fuel (e.g. nitro, gas) powered craft. One of the specialties listed below just might become the next big passion in your life, as it has for many of us. All of these communities are active in Utah.
